Carlsberg UK Major Brewery Upgrade Project

The Carlsberg UK Northampton Brewery was constructed and went into production in 1973 and since then has gone through various improvements to enable the brewery to keep up with the high demand of both their end-user customers and their retailers.

During the summer of 2009 Carlsberg UK awarded Datastor Systems Limited a contract to further improve the existing kegging line. This project involved the conversion of multiple obsolete Siemens S5 PLC’s to Siemens S7 PLC’s.

Project Overview

Obsolescence of the existing Siemens S5 PLC’s was the reason for Carlsberg up-grading to the latest S7 model. The existing control system had been in place for over 10 years and had performed very well during

this time and this was central to Carlsberg’s decision to retain Siemens equipment. In addition to the PLC upgrade, the existing WinCC SCADA system was also up-graded to the latest version.
